Compare villages honestly
Oia is known for caldera views and sunset attention, with premium prices and substantial foot traffic. Fira has a central bus hub, dining, and nightlife. Imerovigli and Firostefani can offer caldera access with a different evening rhythm. Kamari and Perissa place travelers near beaches rather than the cliff edge. Akrotiri suits archaeology and the south but requires transport planning.
Ask detailed lodging questions
“Caldera view” does not explain privacy, stairs, road access, luggage handling, or the exact room view. Request current photos, confirm the number of steps, and ask where a taxi can stop. Travelers with mobility needs should not rely on a general accessibility label in a cliffside village.
Plan around transport limits
Public buses connect important areas, but frequency and crowding change by season and time. Rental vehicles add parking and narrow-road concerns. Taxis are limited during busy periods. Cluster the day geographically and avoid timed reservations in several villages.
